Deposit Funds
New Clients
There is no minimum deposit required. You may deposit any amount you wish to start with.
Before sending us funds, please ensure that you have completed your registration, and you have scanned and uploaded your ID documents. Until OANDA receives and verifies this information, we will not be able to credit your account.
You will receive a confirmation email from OANDA when your account is authorized for funding. The instructions below will help you understand how to deposit your funds into your OANDA account.
Existing Clients
Sign in to the Funds Management System to deposit funds into your OANDA account. The system will instruct you on how to deposit via credit card, PayPal, bank transfer, or check/money order, as the process differs according to the funding method you select.
Rules and restrictions;
- Funds are withdrawn via the same method by which funds were deposited into your OANDA account. If deposits are intended for use with fxGlobalTransfer, please ensure that your funds are sent to OANDA via bank transfer (i.e. wire, BACS, CHAPS, etc.).
- OANDA does NOT process third-party payments.
Credit Cards
- Sign in to the Funds Management System. Go to the Deposit Funds tab and select “Credit Card” as your funding method, and the OANDA currency account you wish to deposit funds into.
- Use a credit card with the same currency as your OANDA account currency. If you use a different currency, your credit card company will apply its own exchange rate.
- OANDA service charge is $0.
- Credit card service charges vary depending on the credit card company’s fee policy.
- Processing time: Credit card deposits are processed immediately.
- Maximum credit card deposit size is 10,000 units of currency (or 100,000 JPY) per month.
Bank Wire Transfers
- Sign in to the Funds Management System. Go to the Deposit Funds tab and select the appropriate funding source and OANDA currency account to create a Deposit Notification; this notifies us that your funds are arriving under your name and for your OANDA account. (If you send funds and don’t properly submit this form, we will not be able to credit the funds to your OANDA account so your wire deposit may get rejected and your funds returned to your bank account.)
- Use the same currency in the bank wire as your OANDA account currency. If you use a different currency, intermediary banks will apply their own exchange rates.
- OANDA service charge is $0.
- Bank service charges vary depending on the number of intermediary banks involved in the transfer and are outside of OANDA’s control. If you do not add applicable service charges to the total amount when wiring funds, the receiving bank may deduct them directly, resulting in a smaller incoming amount than you sent. This is a bank service charge, not an OANDA service charge.
- Processing Time: Typically, wire transfers within Canada take between 1-2 business days to be posted to OANDA’s account. International wire transfers take longer; between 2-5 business days, depending on the number of intermediary banks involved. Once the funds are posted to OANDA’s account, they are credited to your OANDA currency account within one business day (provided there are no pending issues with your OANDA currency account).
Paypal
- Do not use PayPal if you want to wire these funds through fxGlobalTransfer. You must wire the funds instead.
- PayPal links are available in the Funds Management System PayPal deposit instructions. Sign in to the Funds Management System. Go to the Deposit Funds tab and select PayPal from your list of funding sources, and the appropriate OANDA currency account, to create a Deposit Notification; this notifies us that funds are arriving under your name and for your OANDA account. (If you send funds and don’t submit this form, your deposit may take up to 3 weeks to be processed).
- This option is only available for OANDA CAD accounts (primary accounts and sub-accounts).
- Include your fxTrade username and account number in the Special Instructions of your PayPal payment.
- For individual fxTrade accounts: Your PayPal name and/or email address must match your OANDA account records for a PayPal deposit to be processed.
- For entity fxTrade accounts: Your PayPal name and email address must match your OANDA account records for a PayPal deposit to be processed.
- Third-party deposits are not accepted by OANDA.
- Service charges: For PayPal account holders from the USA/Canada, a service fee of $0.30 per transfer plus 2.9% of the total amount transferred will be deducted from your margin deposit. For International (Non-US/Non-CAD) PayPal account holders, a service fee of $0.30 per transfer plus 3.9% of the total amount transferred will be deducted from your margin deposit. For eCheck payments the service charge is capped at $5.00.
- Processing time: PayPal payments are processed within one business day. Funds sent via eChecks are processed within one business day after the eCheck is cleared by PayPal.
- Verified vs Unverified: Please note that OANDA can only accept up to 100 CAD in total from Unverified PayPal accounts. If you wish to send funds in excess of 100 CAD, please verify your PayPal account before sending your payment.
- Please send the funds after signing in to your PayPal account. Funds sent without signing in to your PayPal account will not be processed.
- PayPal accounts based in certain countries can only be used to send funds. Please do not use PayPal for deposits if you cannot receive funds on your PayPal account. Use other methods instead, such as a credit card, bank transfer, check, or money order.
Cheques and Money Orders
- This option is only available for CAD accounts. Cheques drawn from a Canadian bank may be used for margin deposits. The funds for all cheques must be in Canadian dollars. International cheques (cheques drawn from a non-Canadian bank) are not accepted and will be returned unprocessed.
- Do not send cheques or money orders if you want to wire these funds through fxGlobalTransfer. You must wire the funds instead.
- Sign in to the Funds Management Sysytem for instructions (including the special P.O. Box mailing address where you must send your payment). You must submit an online Deposit Notification form to notify OANDA that funds are arriving under your name and for your OANDA account. (If you send funds and don't submit this form, your deposit may take up to 3 weeks to be processed).
- OANDA service charge: $0.
- Bank service charge: $0.
- NSF cheques: If your deposit cheque is returned to OANDA with insufficient funds, your OANDA currency account will be suspended and all positions closed. You will be charged an additional fee of $20.00, which will be deducted from your trading account.
- Processing time: Cheques will take up to two business days to be processed upon receipt at our processing center. OANDA will send you notification via email when your cheque is processed. Please note that personal cheques may take an additional five business days to clear, as they must clear both the client’s side and OANDA’s. Personal cheques being held for clearing will not earn interest.
