Multi-Currency Accounts

Open Sub-Accounts in Several Currencies

OANDA's fxTrade customers can open multi-currency fxTrade accounts in any one of the following currencies:

  • Australian Dollar (AUD)
  • Canadian Dollar (CAD)
  • Euro (EUR)
  • Great Britain Pound (GBP)
  • Hong Kong Dollar (HKD)
  • Japanese Yen (JPY)
  • Singapore Dollar (SGD)
  • Swiss Franc (CHF)
  • US Dollar (USD)

As an OANDA customer, you may use any one of the above currencies to open one primary account or create up to 19 additional sub-accounts.

You can deposit funds directly into a primary account or sub-account. These funds must be in the same currency as the account currency.

Creating a sub-account

Click here to create a sub-account or go to your fxTrade toolbar and select 'Account/Create Sub-Account'.

Sub-accounts may be created under your primary account without having to resubmit an Account Application form. You may have multiple sub-accounts; however, all your sub-accounts may be linked to only one primary account.

Some terms

Account currency: The currency used for a primary account or sub-account. The account currency is designated when an account is created, and cannot be changed.

Primary account: The first account that is created after you fill out all of the forms and accept the Account Agreements to open an fxTrade account. The account currency of your primary account is the currency that was selected when the primary account was created. (Prior to April 15, 2003, the default Account Currency for all primary accounts was the US Dollar.)

Sub-account (or secondary account): Sub-accounts may be created under your primary account without having to resubmit Account Application forms. You may have multiple sub-accounts; however, all your sub-accounts may be linked to only one primary account. Each sub-account can be in any of the supported currencies, regardless of the primary account's currency.

You may freely transfer funds between primary and sub-accounts, or deposit funds directly in a sub-account in the currency of that sub-account. You can withdraw funds from a sub-account in its currency (as long as you withdraw funds by the same method as you deposited them).

Example

Susie's primary account currency is in US dollars (USD), and she holds a sub-account (secondary account) with OANDA in Euros (EUR). Susie may deposit EUR directly into her EUR sub-account and USD directly into her USD primary account and move funds between these accounts.

Susie can withdraw funds from either account in that account’s currency.

Deposits and Withdrawals
